O terceiro episódio do podcast “Dos Outros Ninguém Sabe” conta com Bruno Gonçalves, mediador cultural e fundador da Associação Letras Nómadas, Francisco Mangas, historiador do CITCEM, e Oxana Barbalata, bolseira e investigadora do ISCTE. Estas e outras perguntas são o mote para um conjunto de episódios que visa dar a conhecer a história e a cultura cigana, no contexto português, focando nos desafios da contemporaneidade, sem esquecer um passado mais remoto e as suas implicações nas realidades de hoje. The third episode of the podcast “Dos Outros Ninguém Sabe” features Bruno Gonçalves, cultural mediator and founder of Associação Letras Nómadas, Francisco Mangas, historian at CITCEM, and Oxana Barbalata, scholarship holder and researcher at ISCTE. The talk goes through key symbolic elements of Roma identity, such as the anthem, the flag and International Roma Day, underlining the importance of this knowledge both for the communities themselves and for Portuguese society in general. Nobody knows about the others: history(s) of the Portuguese gypsies

How did the gypsies get here? What role have they played in Portugal’s history? Are Roma culturally nomadic? What is the relevance of Roma associations? These and other questions are the motto for a series of episodes aimed at revealing Gypsy history and culture in the Portuguese context, focusing on contemporary challenges, without forgetting a more distant past and its implications for today’s realities.
