Conferência Internacional “Cost Action: Slow Memory” vai ter lugar no Porto de 2 a 4 de julho de 2025
De 2 a 4 de julho, a cidade do Porto acolhe a conferência internacional COST Action: Slow Memory (Memória Lenta), um evento único que convida à reflexão sobre a forma como as memórias coletivas, os traumas históricos e os legados esquecidos se inscrevem no território e na experiência humana — de forma lenta, silenciosa e, muitas vezes, invisível.
Organizada no âmbito da rede europeia COST Action Slow Memory, esta conferência reunirá mais de 300 participantes vindos de mais de 40 países, entre os quais se contam investigadores, artistas, arquitetos, ativistas e representantes de comunidades locais. O objetivo é explorar o conceito de Memória Lenta.
O que é a Memória Lenta?
Vivemos num mundo cheio de contradições – onde as redes digitais aceleram tudo, mas as desigualdades, as crises e as incertezas continuam a aumentar. Para enfrentarmos desafios como as alterações climáticas, a automatização, as pandemias e a instabilidade política, é necessário abrandar e refletir sobre o passado. A proposta da Memória Lenta convida-nos a pensar como as práticas culturais e a memória podem ajudar a construir respostas mais refletidas e sustentáveis neste tempo vertiginoso e por vezes esmagador.
O programa desta conferência, que inclui conferências, mesas-redondas, visitas guiadas, apresentações artísticas e intervenções em vários espaços da cidade, procura promover, ao longo de três dias, a exploração deste conceito debruçando-se sobre temas como a memória do colonialismo, a violência das ditaduras, das migrações forçadas, do trauma ambiental e das formas esquecidas de resistência.
A conferência é aberta ao público, mediante inscrição prévia, e propõe-se como um espaço de reflexão crítica e partilha de experiências, cruzando disciplinas, geografias e temporalidades. A cidade do Porto, com a sua história multifacetada, marcada por camadas de memória visível e oculta, oferece o cenário ideal para esta reflexão.

Cost Action: Slow Memory” International Conference will take place in Porto from July 2 to 4, 2025
From July 2 to 4, the city of Porto will host the international conference COST Action: Slow Memory, a unique event that invites reflection on how collective memories, historical traumas and forgotten legacies are inscribed in the territory and in the human experience – slowly, silently and often invisibly.
Organized within the framework of the European network COST Action Slow Memory, this conference will bring together more than 300 participants from over 40 countries, including researchers, artists, architects, activists and representatives of local communities. The aim is to explore the concept of Slow Memory.
What is Slow Memory?
We live in a world full of contradictions – where digital networks speed everything up, but inequalities, crises and uncertainties continue to grow. In order to face challenges such as climate change, automation, pandemics and political instability, we need to slow down and reflect on the past. The Slow Memory proposal invites us to think about how cultural practices and memory can help build more thoughtful and sustainable responses in this dizzying and sometimes overwhelming time.
The conference program, which includes lectures, round tables, guided tours, artistic presentations and interventions in various spaces in the city, seeks to promote the exploration of this concept over three days, focusing on themes such as the memory of colonialism, the violence of dictatorships, forced migrations, environmental trauma and forgotten forms of resistance.
The conference is open to the public, subject to prior registration, and is intended as a space for critical reflection and the sharing of experiences, crossing disciplines, geographies and temporalities. The city of Porto, with its multifaceted history, marked by layers of visible and hidden memory, offers the ideal setting for this reflection.
