Título/Tema geral da sessão: As mulheres portuguesas na emigração para França

Resumo da Sessão: A emigração portuguesa para França é um dos movimentos mais importantes da diáspora portuguesa e da nossa história recente. Na sua maioria, as ciências sociais têm dado pouca relevância às mulheres na emigração, apesar de representarem mais de metade do movimento migratório para França. Nesta sessão juntamos oradoras de diferentes áreas, que tem vindo a trabalhar sobre a emigração, dando especial destaque às mulheres portuguesas emigrantes em França, onde cada uma foca-se em diferentes décadas da segunda metade do século XX. Assim cada oradora, traz uma perspetiva única sobre as vivências das mulheres em França: desde a partida; passando pelo trabalho, alojamento e movimento associativo; até às consequências psicológicas das migrações para as mulheres e as suas famílias. O objetivo destas sessões é, também, demonstrar que a História e a Sociologia são enriquecidas pelas Histórias de Vida, indo para além da análise de vários materiais e abordagens metodológicas mais clássicas.

Title/General theme of the session: Portuguese women emigrating to France

Session Summary: Portuguese emigration to France is one of the most important movements in the Portuguese diaspora and in our recent history. For the most part, the social sciences have given little importance to women in emigration, despite the fact that they represent more than half of the migratory movement to France. This session brings together speakers from different fields who have been working on emigration, with a special focus on Portuguese women emigrants to France, each focusing on different decades of the second half of the 20th century. Thus, each speaker brings a unique perspective on the experiences of women in France: from departure; through work, housing and the associative movement; to the psychological consequences of migration for women and their families. The aim of these sessions is also to demonstrate that History and Sociology are enriched by Life Stories, going beyond the analysis of various materials and more classic methodological approaches.
